Try doing as much as possible the day before something must be done. If at all possible, take the time to lay out your agenda for the next day before it starts. Assign a time to any activity or conversation that is important to your goals. Too many things on a to-do list make them hard to complete. You can also use appointment books. Schedule personal appointments and make time blocks for those conversations, actions and thoughts. Schedule their beginnings and endings. Make sure you complete them on schedule.

If you’re always pressed for time, start trying to be early for everything. If you aim to be on time, even a little traffic can mess up your entire schedule by making you late. However, when you do your best to be early, you are often left with a little extra time, which you can then put to good use!

Do not be afraid to neglect any tasks that are not essential. If you have a busy schedule, you can eliminate anything that does not have a deadline or something that could be done by someone else. Allow people to help you with the tasks that you do not have to handle personally.

Do not rush through your day. If you rush through things and make mistakes, it is going to take you far longer to fix those mistakes than it would have for you to do it right the first time. Slow and careful work will be more productive than rushed, sloppy work.

Try to avoid answering the phone or e-mails just because they ring or appear. If you can, try disabling or disconnecting instant messaging. You don’t need to instantly give people attention unless it’s essential to the instant human response aspect of your business. You should try scheduling time for returning calls and answering emails.

Multi-tasking is a wonderful ability, but many people do not do it. Use any time when you are waiting, such as waiting for food to cook, to take care of another small task. For instance, you might set the table or clean your kitchen counter while watching that a pot does not boil over.

Decline any tasks that are really nonessential. Take care of those things that are urgent or important. Most of your time will be spent on matters that are both urgent and important. Anything that falls outside of these two categories does not deserve much of your time if you want to get things done.

Knowing when to ask for help is a big part of effective time management. Whenever you have trouble completing a particular task, ask yourself if there’s somebody else who knows how to get the job done. If there’s an expert available to you, take advantage of their knowledge! Ask for tips on how to complete your task more efficiently, and in the future you’ll be able to meet your goals faster.

Alert those around you of your need to concentrate. Sometimes speaking up is all that you need to do to be more effective with your time. If those around you don’t have that notice, then they won’t know to leave you alone for the time being. It’s a simple time management step that can pay big dividends.

Organize socializing to include more than one friend and you will save time. While it is great to get together with just one friend occasionally, visiting with several at one time saves time. It is also a great way to foster friendships between your acquaintances that may not know each other very well.

If you have errands to do, group together the errands that are in the same geographical location. This will help you plan your car trip so you will not have to double back and drive back and forth. This will help you save time and save gasoline at the same time.

Never get down on yourself. It can be tough to do a lot of projects all at once; it’s not something to hold anxiety over. You should be realistic in your expectations, especially at first. If you have wild initial expectations you may give up when you fall short.

To boost time management at work, keep your work space neat. If you are always picking through piles of papers on your desk, you are wasting time every time you need to find something. Take a minute or two before you leave each day bringing things back into their proper order.
